On Tuesday, The BlackBerry KEYone smartphone has been launched in India in partnership with manufacturing and distribution partner Optiemus Infracom. The smartphone is priced at Rs 39,990 and will be available exclusively on Amazon India from August 8.
The biggest highlight of the phone is hardware QWERTY keyboard which has a fingerprint sensor on the space-bar and a capacitive touch on the entire keyboard for scrolling. One can ‘Flick’ predictions using the BlackBerry KEYone keyboard, and also assign shortcuts to keys for actions such as browsing, triggering the camera or messaging app. Another highlight is BlackBerry’s own security and productivity software runs on Androide 7.1.1 Nougat operating system.
To recall, the smartphone was first launched at MWC 2017. The BlackBerry KEYone is the last smartphone designed by the company itself. As the company has given away the license for designing and producing smartphones to its partner TCL. Blackberry also sign a long term contract with Optiemus Infracom Ltd. For manufacturing and selling future Blackberry Android smartphone in India in neighbor countries like Srilanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

Now without a further ado let’s quickly jump on specifications, as mentioned earlier the Blackberry KEYone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system and sports a 4.5” IPS LCD (1080×1620 pixels) display with 433ppi and 3:2 aspect ratio that comes with the protection of corning gorilla glass. The smartphone is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. It offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which is further expandable up to 2TB via microSD card.
In terms of optics, the Blackberry KEYone has a 12MP rear camera with a Sony IMX378 sensor and features an f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, EIS, and dual-tone LED flash. On the front, it bears an 8MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture and an 84-degree wide-angle lens. The smartphone is powered by a 3505mAh non-removable battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support along with a ‘Boost’ charging feature which is said to charge the smartphone from zero to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.
Connectivity options of Blackberry KEYone include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS, Bluetooth v4.2, FM radio, USB Type-C (3.1), and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors on board the smartphone include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, and a proximity sensor. It measures 149.3×72.5×9.4mm, and weighs 180 grams.
