When it comes to gaming smartphones, Xiaomi’s Black Shark series phones have its own space. They have taken the heights of gaming smartphones to the next level. After a great success of Black Shark and Black Shark 2, the company has launched its gaming flagship for 2020 – Black Shark 3 series. This time, the company has launched the base as well as the Pro version of its Black Shark 3 lineup. So, altogether, we have two gaming phones from Black Shark: Black Shark 3 and Black Shark 3 Pro.

As you know, Black Shark smartphones come with top-of-the-line specs with excellent gaming-centric features that take the bar of mobile gaming to the next level. As expected, the Black Shark 3 series also comes with the latest Snapdragon 865 SoC to offer an amazing gaming experience on phone. Apart from this, key features of the Black Shark 3 series phone include AMOLED panel with the industry’s first 270Hz touch sampling rate, pro-grade triple rear cameras, and comes with 65W fast charging. Let’s take a closer look at each of them to get a clearer picture of them.

The all-new Black Shark 3 features a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with the industry’s first 270Hz touch sampling rate. Additionally, it also comes with a 24ms touch response time and a 28ms multi-finger touch response time to offer a lag-free gaming experience. The touch panel refreshes at 90Hz, ensuring smooth scrolling and animations.

Under the hood, the Black Shark 3 is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC which is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. For media and storage, it comes with up to 256GB of inbuilt storage that comes with UFS 3.0 storage technology.

In the camera department, even after being a gaming phone, the company has taken care of photography too. Black Shark 3 sports a triple rear camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel primary sensor, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor with 120-degrees of field view, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. There is also a 20-megapixel selfie camera that is placed at the top of the bezels. 

Apart from this, Black Shark 3 is the world’s first 5G gaming phone. It also comes with WiFi 6 which can be combined with the 5G connection to increase the bandwidth. Both the models get a dedicate Furthermore, this gaming phone is fuelled by a massive 4,720mAh battery with 65W fast charging. During the launch, the company claims that the phone takes just 38 minutes to charge the phone from 0 to 100% which is incredible.

Since this is the top-end version of Black Shark 3, most of the features of Black Shark 3 Pro is very similar to that of Black Shark 3 with some notable differences. The Black Shark 3 Pro features a tablet-sized 7.1-inch AMOLED panel with a Quad HD+ 3120 x 1440p resolution display. It has all the display features as that of its base variant. Undoubtedly, the Black Shark 3 Pro has one of the best displays for mobile gaming.

Similar to the base version, Black Shark 3 Pro is powered by the same processor with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The camera department also remains unchanged and has a triple rear camera setup. There is no further differences among them in these fields.

Apart from this, the only change between both of these phones is battery capacity. The Black Shark 3 Pro comes with a massive 5,000mAh battery with the same 65W fast charging. Despite featuring a larger battery, Black Shark 3 Pro also takes just 38 minutes to charge the phone from 0 to 100%.

We had enough talk of all of its specs, now coming to the gaming features for which this smartphone has been made for. In addition to all the above-mentioned differences, the only between Black Shark 3 and Black Shark 3 Pro in the gaming department is the availability of two mechanical gaming buttons.

Black Shark 3 Pro features two mechanical gaming buttons on its right side. During the launch, the company mentioned that each of these buttons is 21mm long and features a 1.5mm keystroke. They are good for over 1 million clicks. The Pro variant also gets horizontal linear motors for better tactile feedback during gameplay.

Apart from this, all of the features are the same on both of the models. The Black Shark 3 comes with a special liquid “Sandwich Cooling system”. The innovative 4th generation liquid cooling system implies the long-shaped cooling pipes on both sides of the mainboard. This is built for keeping the core cool and enable the Snapdragon 865 to run at its best state, providing stably high performance during intense gaming.

In addition to this, the Black Shark 3 Pro features the world’s first dual battery with series charging and parallel discharging. This enables parallel discharging which allows a longer and more stable battery life. Furthermore, to make the phone cool and steady, the Black Shark also selling a clip-on ice-cooling external fan for the device, similar to what we saw for the Mi 10 series.

The company has partnered with Tencent games to optimize gameplay on both these devices. So, both of the models feature Tencent’s SolarCore Gaming Acceleration Engine in addition to Black Shark’s own Gaming Engine. This will amplify a smoother gaming experience on mobile especially PUBG Mobile.

The Black Shark 3 Pro pricing is as follows:

  • 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM – 4699 yuan (approx $674)
  • 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM – 4999 yuan (approx $717)

Black Shark 3 Pricing is as follows: 

  • 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM – 3499 yuan (approx $502)
  • 12GB RAM + 128GB ROM – 3799 yuan(approx $545)
  • 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM – 3999 yuan (approx $573)

As for the availability, the Black Shark 3 model goes on sale for the first time on March 6, while the Pro variant will go on sale much later on March 17 in China.
