Treyarch seems to be teasing a brand new Zombies map for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War that could have something to do with Dark Aether.
A teaser image from Treyarch appears to hint that a new map for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Zombies mode will somehow connect to Dark Aether. Since the shooter’s launch late last year, Treyarch has regularly rolled out updates and fresh content. Right now, the crew is gearing up for the release of a mid-season update, which should go live tomorrow, January 14.
While the studio continues to keep a few key details close to its chest, the developer has at least teased what fans can look forward to once the latest batch of content drops. For one, COD: Black Ops Cold War’s Fireteam mode will receive an all-new map known as “Sanatorium.” Player can also expect the mid-season update from Treyarch to include a host of new tweaks and adjustments for Zombies’ Cranked mode. Plus, the previously hinted Dark Aether intel now looks as though it will bring something special to the table.

Treyarch still isn’t letting loose too many details, but a recent image from the studio’s Twitter account seems to hint at a new Zombies map. The picture in question is a black and white overhead shot of a map called Omega Outpost 25. Red writing in the photo’s top-left corner reads, “M. This is the place I spoke of. Omega Outpost 25.” A block of text to the right is accompanied by an arrow pointing down, directing the reader to: “Omega Portal Chamber. This is where the portal is maintained to the Dark Aether.” The picture’s final message at the bottom simply reads, “More Soon. – R.” And the Treyarch caption attached to the text-laden tease notes, “Projekt Endstation was only the beginning.”
Fans online believe a few pieces of the teaser image closely resemble COD’s Shi No Numa location, a classic Zombies map featured in Call of Duty: World at War. The mention of Projekt Endstation is rather telling, too. In COD lore, Projekt Endstation was a Nazi research program whose experiments led to the opening of the Dark Aether tear, which then culminated in the undead takeover. Thus, it seems Zombies mode may soon become even more intriguing.
The new content update for Zombies mode in Black Ops Cold War, with its maps, modes, and so on is coming just in time, too. Starting tomorrow, all PC, PlayStation, and Xbox users will gain free access to Zombies for a week. During the free week, everyone will get to try out the Die Maschine and Cranked modes, while PlayStation users additionally gain access to Onslaught.
