After a long wait, the Black Mesa team has just launched the technical beta phase for Black Mesa Xen. This technical beta features three out of six maps that are currently being developed for the Black Mesa Xen.
These three maps are just the first portion of a full 19-map Xen campaign. One can play this beta version of the game by going into Black Mesa’s Steam properties menu and selecting “public beta” in the “betas” tab. The developers say this is only “a taste of what’s to come.”
“The purpose of this beta is to collect bugs and feedback on a range of different computers,” the Black Mesa team wrote on the game’s Steam page. “We have made significant improvements and changes to the Source engine, and we want the game to run as smoothly as possible.”
The Black Mesa team claimed that running the game at 4K resolution at Max settings may drastically lower the overall framerate, and so, you need to have a very powerful GPU to run this game in 4K resolution.
There isn’t currently any release date on when Black Mesa Xen will be fully released. Whenever it will be, we will update you as soon as it happens.
