Bethesda Sets September 6 as New Starfield Release Date, Previous Delays Resolved

In an exciting update, Bethesda Softworks has announced that the highly anticipated space-set RPG, Starfield, is scheduled for release on September 6. This news comes after the game was previously delayed to the first half of 2023, and now faces yet another setback.

Starfield director Todd Howard has promised fans a deep dive session called ‘Starfield Direct’ on June 11, where he will provide detailed information on the game’s features. Originally, there were plans for a presentation at January’s Xbox Developer Direct, but Microsoft decided against it to ensure that Starfield wouldn’t overshadow other games. However, the event did introduce Hi-Fi Rush, an exciting new cartoonish rhythm-based game developed by Tango Gameworks.

“We have poured our hearts and souls into this game, and I’m personally amazed by how much we have been able to accomplish,” said Howard in the Starfield update video. He further added, “There is still so much more that we have yet to reveal. The game encompasses many of the elements that you would expect from us, but it also offers a truly unique experience.” This game marks the first new universe created by Bethesda in the past 25 years. It transports players to the vastness of space, allowing them to create a custom character and embark on an epic, futuristic journey where they explore planets and interact with their inhabitants. Set in the year 2330, players will initially start as a space miner before eventually joining the Constellation, a group of space explorers dedicated to uncovering rare artifacts from across the galaxy. Howard himself describes Starfield as “Skyrim in space.”

In a previous interview, it was revealed that Bethesda has placed a heavy emphasis on character customization in Starfield. The dialogue system incorporates a Persuasion mechanic, requiring players to allocate points towards specific traits to gain an advantage in conversations with non-player characters. This system is similar to Fallout 3’s dialogue selection, but now includes a points system. As players attempt to persuade characters to assist them in achieving their objectives, they will engage in speech challenges that consume points. Howard also mentioned that character traits can be altered through the completion of specific quests, eliminating the need to recreate characters from scratch. Additionally, each trait comes with a negative effect.

A gameplay showcase from last year unveiled that Starfield allows players to experience the game from both first-person and third-person perspectives. Players can scan and collect resources, hunt down space pirates, and pick locks to acquire valuable items. Returning to character creation, players can customize their character’s skin tone, muscularity, walking style, and background, each of which comes with three starting skills. The game also features a comprehensive crafting system that enables players to conduct research projects on resources, crafting weapon modifications to aid them on their challenging interstellar journey. For those in need of a break from combat and looting, players have the option to build Outposts, which serve as a home away from home. In these Outposts, players can hire in-game characters to ensure its smooth operation.

Finally, the wait for Starfield will come to an end on September 6 when it releases on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and Xbox Game Pass. Fans can also look forward to the Starfield Direct presentation, which will take place on June 11, immediately following the Xbox Games Showcase.
