Battletoads Information and Release Seem To Be Imminent

Microsoft held their Xbox Games Showcase yesterday and excited fans with a stream of games that are coming to the Xbox Series X. We were treated to an expansive look at Halo Infinite, the reveal of Obsidian’s new fantasy RPG Avowed and a glimpse at the next entry into the Forza Motorsport series. One game that was surprisingly left out of the showcase however was Dlala Studios and Rare’s Battletoads. Expectation levels were especially high for it after the game was recently rated by the Australian Classification Board.

The game was revealed to rapturous applause at E3 in 2018, and aside from a second showing at E3 2019, the studio has been fairly silent. That could be all set to change very soon though based off of a couple of recent Tweets. When a Twitter user tweeted they were “Really sad that Battletoads hasn’t had any update since its announcement.” Dlala’s CEO and Game Director on Battletoads, AJ Grand-Scrutton, simply replied: “News Soon!” This was a sentiment he echoed to multiple Twitter users throughout the evening.

If that wasn’t enough, another Twitter user stated they “wouldn’t be surprised if that Battletoads game that was announced two years ago is straight up cancelled.” Only for Daryl Sinclair Gardner, who is a video editor at Rare, to reassure them that “I can promise you it will be released very soon (as I literally edit a trailer for it as I type…)

This is welcome news for many, as like I said, there’s been no news or announcements on the game in over a year now.

Back at E3 2019, we got to go hands-on with the game and our previewer enjoyed it a lot, saying “Dlala Studios seems to have honed in on many problems modern beat ’em ups have faced in the past and addressed them in productive ways.”

It will be interesting to see how Microsoft decides to drop the Battletoads news, but it’s definitely not too far away. Keep your eyes peeled right here for that information.
