Atlas Fallen – Combat Tips for Dishing Out Sandy Slaughter

Atlas Fallen: Mastering Combat in the Sandy Wasteland

Atlas Fallen, the latest action-adventure game from Deck13, the creators of The Surge and Lords of the Fallen, offers a unique experience that requires some adjustment to its combat mechanics. While it may not be as challenging as the hardcore Soulslike games, it still demands skill and strategy. If you’re feeling frustrated, don’t worry. Here are some tips to help you dominate the sandy wasteland of Atlas Fallen:

1. Stick close and keep up the pressure: While mobility is a key aspect of the game, running away from enemies is not always the best approach. Many enemies have homing projectile attacks that can hit you regardless of your movements. Instead, focus on staying up close to your foes and maintaining a steady offense.

2. Focus on parrying rather than dodging: Dodging in Atlas Fallen is not very effective. Instead, utilize your Sandskin ability to become invulnerable for a moment and parry enemy attacks. Successful parries allow you to freeze smaller enemies, opening them up for more damage. Timing is crucial, but with practice and possible upgrades, parrying can become easier.

3. Keep a close eye on your Momentum meter: The blue bar at the bottom of the screen represents your Momentum meter. Successfully landing attacks fills it up, granting you more power, range, and access to powerful Shatter attacks. It is important to keep dealing damage to maintain your Momentum and unleash devastating attacks when needed.

4. Don’t be too eager with Shatter attacks: While Shatter attacks may be tempting to use immediately, it is often better to save them for crucial moments. Using a Shatter attack depletes your Momentum Gauge, temporarily removing the benefits of your Essence Stones. Wait for the opportune moment and unleash a powered-up Shatter attack to turn the tide of a battle.

5. Don’t forget about your Essence Stone special attacks: In contrast to Shatter attacks, Essence Stone special attacks consume less Momentum. These attacks, especially as you progress through the game, can be quite powerful and should not be neglected.

6. Take to the air: Combat in Atlas Fallen allows you to fight in the air. Staying airborne can be beneficial, especially against larger bosses whose ground-level attacks pose a greater threat. You can fly above their attacks and then use a powerful ground pound when you need to descend.

7. Keep focused on the proper enemy body parts: When facing powerful enemies or bosses, pay attention to the chart in the top-left section of the screen that highlights the targetable body parts. Focusing on the correct segments is essential, as attacking the wrong areas is a waste of effort.

8. Stay alert to off-screen indicators: Being attacked from behind is a common annoyance in Atlas Fallen. Minimize these cheap shots by closely monitoring the indicators that reveal the presence of off-screen enemies. When an indicator flashes red, prepare to parry their attacks.

Remember, mastering Atlas Fallen’s combat takes time and practice. With these tips in mind, you’ll be better equipped to overcome any challenge in the game.
