Asus ROG Phone 3 users complain that they can’t stream HD content

Some Asus ROG Phone 3 users are complaining that their devices have lost Widevine L1 suddenly and streaming apps are no longer playing content in HD. This issue is not affecting all users and only some users are affected. Asus hasn’t acknowledged the issue yet while users are waiting for a solution. Note that Asus ROG Phone 3, otherwise, comes with Widevine L1 certification out-of-the-box.
Affected users have taken to ASUS’s ZenTalk forums to highlight the issue. Some of the users claimed that the issue happened after they updated the software to the latest version that was released by the company. Other users claimed in the forum that some of the affected users were told to go to the “service center to have some key regenerated” to fix the issue. There is no clarity yet from Asus on this matter.

It is quite possible that there is some software issue as phones from OnePlus also faced similar issues for a short duration earlier, as per a report by Android Police. Asus ROG Phone 3 runs the company’s custom-baked ROG UI based on Android 10.
Asus ROG Phone 3 was launched July 2020 as the ultimate gaming smartphone. Apart from the most-powerful Qualcomm 865+ processor, the ROG Phone 3 comes with 144Hz refresh rate display, improved thermal system, triple-rear camera setup and more.

The ROG Phone 3 sports a 6.59-inch AMOLED HDR10+ display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels and 391ppi density. The display features a refresh rate of 144Hz with 270Hz touch sampling rate and 25ms touch latency.
