Astro Slide 5G Transformer Smartphone Launched With A Slider QWERTY Keyboard

Planet Computers has been one of the brands currently available which launch unique smartphones that highly focus on hardware performance. In the latest move, the company has launched its latest flagship phone – Astro Slide which carries a very unique physical keyboard.

The new Astro Slide is one of the robust smartphones from the company. However, one of the most notable things about this phone is, you can use it either as a standard 6.53-inch touchscreen smartphone or as a PDA as it has a “RockUp” slide hinge mechanism. This hinge lets it tilt upward to a certain angle that makes it easy to place on a table and use it from the physical QWERTY keyboard.

In other words, this hinge mechanism lets you use this phone as a mini-laptop. Once you are done it using it as a PDA, you can slide back to use it as a smartphone. In addition to a robust look, this smartphone has powerful hardware loaded in it.

Starting from the beginning, the new Astro Slide 5G features a 6.53-inch display with an unknown ratio or resolution. Under the hood, this smartphone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset with built-in 5G with “twice the performance of other 5G chipsets with significantly reduced power consumption,” the company claims.

Apart from this, this phone comes in a single 6GB/128GB storage variant. The storage can be expanded via a microSD card. It has a 48-megapixel rear camera and a selfie camera loaded in the camera department. It comes with an eSIM slot that is loaded on the phone in addition to the dual-SIM slots.

Besides, Astro Slide has an NFC, two USB-C ports, a 3.5 mm audio jack and stereo speakers. It is fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery that comes with wireless charging support. It has Android 10 and a multi-boot option, supporting Linux.

It is one of the robust smartphones currently available with high-end hardware and features. The only red flag is that it’s being crowdfunded on Indiegogo, where highly-touted products often go to die. However, Planet Computers has a good track record, as it successfully crowdfunded and delivered the Cosmo Communicator. The Astro Slide launched today for an early-bird starting price of $491, with shipping estimated for March of 2021.
