Assassin’s Creed Mirage Leaked Map Shows a Smaller-Scale World, Devs Detail Making Baghdad

Assassin’s Creed Mirage has been promoted as a throwback to earlier, smaller-scale games in the series, but what exactly is that going to mean in practice? How large is the map actually going to be? Well, we now have a pretty good indication, courtesy of a leaked map from the collector’s edition of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This map isn’t super detailed – it’s meant to be more of an art piece than something actually useable – but it provides a good idea of Mirage’s overall scope.

As you can see, the middle of the map is dominated by Baghdad, including the original Circular City and some additional districts beyond those walls. Surrounding Baghdad there is some countryside and what appears to be smaller settlements on the north and south tips of the island-like mass the game takes place on. So, there will be some opportunity to explore, but this definitely isn’t the type of sprawling map you saw in games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Eager to know more about the Assassin’s Creed Mirage map? A new dev video has been released, showing some of the work and research Ubisoft Bordeaux and Ubisoft Montreal have put into crafting the virtual city. Recreating 9th-century Baghdad was a challenge, as not a lot survives from that era – it’s essentially a lost city. That said, Ubisoft delved into the history, creating a Baghdad that consists of the Round City core and three distinct districts – Haribiyah, Abassiyah, and Karkh. Check out the video for yourself, below.

While I suppose the game may start to feel a bit cramped eventually, I’m liking what I’m hearing and seeing regarding the scope of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. It sounds like Ubisoft is packing a good amount of variety into a relatively small package that you should be able to fully explore without devoting your life to the game. Assassin’s Creed Mirage sneaks onto PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5 on October 5 (in a rare move, Ubisoft has actually shifted the game’s release to an earlier date).
