Assassin’s Creed is Getting a Live Action TV Series at Netflix

Assassin’s Creed is officially becoming a TV show via Netflix and is yet another multimedia production that Ubisoft has in the works.

Netflix and Ubisoft are currently teaming up on a variety of different projects, but the two companies today announced that they’re actively working on a new series that involves the gaming publisher’s most popular franchise.

Divulged on social media, Netflix announced today that a new TV series set in the world of Assassin’s Creed is currently in development. The series will be of the live-action variety rather than the animated sort that is being developed for Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell series. Ubisoft’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik will be serving as executive producers on the series as well.

For now, no additional details of this Assassin’s Creed project have been given, but it’s definitely an interesting move for Ubisoft. Previously, the publisher released an Assassin’s Creed movie back in 2016 which starred Michael Fassbender, but the film was met with middling reviews for the most part. While the TV show could be just as underwhelming, I do believe that the format of a Netflix series definitely lends itself better in terms of storytelling purposes when it comes to the world of Assassin’s Creed. Hopefully, that ends up being true.

Regardless of how the series turns out, Ubisoft absolutely is going all-in on the TV and film space at this point in time. In one form or another, the company is actively developing projects based on properties like Splinter CellSkull & BonesBeyond Good and Evil, and The Division to name a few. For now, all of these productions don’t have release dates, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer for them to each see the light of day.
