ARM unveils its new Premium CPU, GPU and Machine Learning for 5G compatible Smartphones

ARM, the company who builds the basic chip architecture for the majority of the smartphones has launched its latest chips for the upcoming 5G technology. The company introduced its high-performance CPU, GPU, and Machine Learning chips. All of these announcements have been made by the company at the Computex tech trade show in Taiwan.

The upcoming chips from the company include the Arm Cortex-A77 CPU, the Arm Mali-G77 graphics processing unit (GPU), and the Arm Machine Learning processor. All of these chips are ready to use with the 5G enabled devices to boasts their performance while being on 5G technology. However, they are not singly focused on 5G networking but also these chips will boost the AI performance of a phone by almost 60 percent.

First and the foremost chip in this new list includes the ARM Cortex-A77 CPU which is a successor to the Cortex-A76; however, it is more efficient than its predecessor and is quite cheaper than that. Also, it will deliver up to 20 percent more instructions per clock resulting in better computing. The ARM Cortex-A77 can be used in Machine Learning as well as to boasts the AI performance of a phone.

The next in the row is ARM Mali-G77 GPU which is based on Valhall architecture. And that’s the reason why it is capable to deliver up to 40 percent more performance than its previous version. The Mali-G77 also boasts key microarchitecture enhancements including engine, texture pipes, and load store caches, which achieve 30% better energy efficiency and 30% more performance density.

Apart from this, the Mali-G77 GPU also improves the Machine Learning performance of a system by almost 60 percent resulting in the significant boosts in the inference and neural net (NN) performance for advanced on-device intelligence.

The company said that these chips can be used in the inference and neural net (NN) performance for advanced on-device intelligence. “We’ve followed 5G for a number of years and we are excited to see it is happening this year in the smartphone space,” said Ian Smythe, VC of Marketing for the Client line at ARM.
