Apple WatchOS 5.1.1 Update Goes Live to Fix Apple Watch Bricking Issue


Apple just recently released the WatchOS 5.1.1 update which includes new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The new improvements and bug fixes that are a part of the previous update is also highlighted. The WatchOS 5.1.1 is compatible with Apple Watch Series 1 and later models.

The last update had bricking issues with several Apple Watch Series 4 units after failing to successfully complete its installation.  After the affected users reported the issue, Apple immediately pulled out the update to prevent it from spreading to the other users. And now, the WatchOS 5.1.1 to fix the said issue.

The watchOS 5.1.1 has the same maintenance highlights as the original watchOS 5.1 software update released last week. The highlighted improvements include the fall detection alerts, fixes for Walkie-Talkie issues, and a fix for Activity award issues. But as per the patch notes, the issue with the bricking devices is not mentioned anywhere. it might have been silently fixed by the company.

To check if the watchOS 5.1.1 update is already available for you to download, go to the Apple Watch app on your iOS device and go to General > Software Update. If it is already there, you are now ready to go. But take note that the Watch needs to have at least 50 percent of the battery charge to begin the installation process.

It is also highly recommended to keep to keep your watch charged while installing the new update.  Aside from that, your iPhone also needs to be in close proximity to the Apple Watch and it needs to be connected Wi-Fi. The Apple Watch will restart twice before the update is completely installed.
