Apple To Restrict Facebook, WhatsApp Voice Calling Service

Apple is coming up with a major update for the iOS users with a restriction to use the Voice Calling feature on Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and other VoIP enabled applications. On Tuesday, the reports have started surfacing online making the VoIP feature restricted for such apps.

Why the company is restricting such apps is that they collect background data of the users. The Voice Calling feature on these apps run in the background while users can still use other applications on their iOS device.

With the new update, Apple is restricting access to the background while users make voice calls from these apps. This means you won’t be able to make voice calls while running the app in the background.

This is nothing but yet another Privacy feature which is going to be introduced for the iOS users by Apple. You will still be able to make voice calls without accessing the background. You will not be allowed to use any other apps while making a voice calls on an iOS device with the next update.

This major update will affect Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. However, we are still not unaware of whether the app will restrict the background access from other communication apps such as Telegram, Skype, Snapchat or not! More details are awaited!

WhatsApp has been facing so many Vulnerability issues with its Voice Calling feature i.e. Internet-based calls. In last May month, they have fixed a massive data issue. The data Vulnerability issue had put over 1.5 Billion users at risk.

The issue was very dangerous as attackers were using the Voice Calling feature to inject spyware on the users’ devices. Once the spyware is established, attackers will have all the information about the device including the Contacts list and pretty much everything stored on the device.

With the upcoming iOS 13 update for iOS devices, Apple is likely to restrict these apps from accessing the background of the device while making voice calls. This way, iOS users can safeguard their devices from such Spyware. The company will give more time to the developers to think about this issue.

Apple will soon release a statement regarding this issue in the coming days.
