From the last few months, rumors have been floating around that Apple is planning on launching a new, low cost iPhone in 2020 which will be either named iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9. However, there was no confirmation over the arrival of this phone.
But now, a german site iphone-ticker.de claiming that device will be announced at a March 31 event. The same report also reveals that the company will take this phone on the sale starting April 3.
If we consider the credibility of this report, we cannot say anything about the exact launch date of the phone. But yes, March timing seems about right as Apple launched the iPhone SE in the same month. In addition to this, Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo has also predicted in the past that Apple could launch the iPhone SE aka iPhone 9 in the first quarter of 2020.
If this report turns out to be true, it also means that iPhone lovers will not have to wait until the company’s June event, that is, WWDC, to buy the budget iPhone.
As far as the Apple Spring event is concerned, the company usually reserves the event for its services. Last year, the company introduced the Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+ and the Apple Card at its March 25 event. But maybe this time, the company could launch its low-budget phone at this event.
In terms of specs, the iPhone 9 will feature a design that is similar to the iPhone 8. It will ditch Face ID to opt for Touch ID that is embedded in the phone’s home screen button. It will be powered by the A13 Bionic chipset that powers the iPhone 11 series and it will be available in 64GB and 128GB memory variants. The budget iPhone is expected to be priced around $399 (approx. Rs 28,500).
