Apple announces Replacement Program for Apple Watch Series 2 and 3 Units with Aluminium bodies

Are you having a damaged Apple Watch Series 2 or Apple Watch Series 3? There are finite chances that you can replace it for free under a new replacement program publicly announced on Friday.

Apple has determined that, under very rare circumstances, a crack may form along the rounded edge of the screen in aluminum models of an Apple Watch Series 2 or Series 3.

Apple’s new replacement program covers only a specific type of crack on Apple Watch Series 2 and 3 units that are sold between September 2016 and September 2019.

This indicates that the select Apple watches sold in the next month will also be covered in this replacement program. This suggests that the flaw could happen in the future production models, or Apple could remove affected models from the lineup.

In this new replacement program, accidental damages including shattered screens won’t be covered, and stainless steel and ceramic models that use a different display type also aren’t covered. Apple authorized service providers will only replace the product if there will be a crack around the edges of the display.

Apple also adds this about the duration of the replacement program:

The program covers eligible aluminum models of Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 3 for three years after the first retail sale of the unit or one year from the start date of this program, whichever is longer.
