Apple Acquires Intel Smartphone Modem for $1B


A few days ago, we have reported that Apple and Intel are collaborating for Apple’s future devices. Today, Apple has officially acquired Intel’s Smartphone Modem for $1 Billion. Apple has acquired Intel’s Modem Making division including the staff and copyrights for their future Chips.

Apple officially ended its collaboration with Intel’s rival i.e. Qualcomm a few months ago. And now, the company has bought Intel’s Modem making division for their upcoming 2020 iPhones and other iOS devices.

We all know that the next-generation wireless technology 5G is acquiring by most of the smartphone manufacturers. To keep up to date with the technology, Apple has decided to start manufacturing the 5G Enabled Modems for the 2020 iPhones.

Apple has officially released a Press Statement to announce its acquisition of Intel. With this deal, over 2000 Intel’s employees will join Apple in the coming days for manufacturing Apple’s upcoming devices.

The statement adds, Apple is excited to welcome a host of new engineers and passionate workers who will help them build their next-generation iOS devices. The future iPhones will be using Intel-powered chips with a 5G network.

If we talk about Apple’s catalogue, the Cupertino-based company has over 1,7000 wireless network patents. These patents cover almost everything related to Network connectivity. The patents include Cellular connectivity, Wireless Networks, Cellular Standard Protocols, Modem Architecture and many other more.

The company has further added that the deal is sealed for $1 Billion, and it will be completed by the final quarter of this current year.

Intel too has confirmed this acquisition by Apple and released a statement by saying, the company’s main focus will on manufacturing new generation 5G Modems for the future devices. Apple is unable to manufacturer Modems on its own as the demands are very high from the customers.

To satisfy the needs of each and every Apple Fanboy, the company has acquired Intel’s Modem Division so that they can produce enough number of 5G Modems which will be equipped in the future iPhones. Hopefully, we will get to see Intel’s 5G Modems in the next year, i.e. 2020.
