OnePlus Resumes Android 8.0 Oreo-Based OxygenOS 5.0.1 Update for OnePlus 5

After rolling out OxygenOS 5.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo update for the OnePlus 5 smartphones, OnePlus has canceled the rollout of OxygenOS 5.0 update earlier this week, due to a bug cited in the software. The company had said that instead, it will roll out Oxygen OS 5.0.1 soon.Keeping its promise, the company has today announced that it has resumed rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo-based Oxygen OS 5.0.1 update.

The update is about 1587MB in size and will push out incrementally, you can check its arrival on your OnePlus 5 manually. You need to go to Settings > System updates.

The new 5.0.1 build is almost similar to the previous update, but the company has made two new additions to this new version.

  • Bug fixes for third party camera application
  • Fixed network issues for European operators

Notably, currently the update isn’t compatible with units having unlocked bootloader, so you need to re-lock the bootloader, or find some way to flash the update manually.

Apart from the Oreo features, the update also contains Launcher optimisations for Shelf, new UI changes to the Camera app and a new beauty effect for Portrait Mode and optimisations for photo quality. Additionally, the Gallery app has added a “Places” tab to let users view photos on a map.

System upgrades include parallel apps allow users to have multiple accounts for various apps like WhatsApp and other social networking apps, battery and Wi-Fi optimisations,  new design for Quick Settings panel and Lift up display. The update also brings the latest December security patch. There are also few tweaks in Alarm, Calendar, Calculator and clock apps.
