American politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who serves as the US Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district, recently tweeted about one of the strange things expected from a politician: streaming the sleeper hit social deduction game Among Us on Twitch.

The tweet met an enthusiastic response from Twitterati. Cortez later also invited some of the popular names in streaming and streamers like Imane “Pokimane” Anys, Benjamin “DrLupo” Lupo, and Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker joined her in the game.

But why invite people over for an Among Us game on Twitch? To urge people to vote in the upcoming 2020 elections.
Her stream ratcheted up 4,35,000 viewers on Twitch, as per a report by Polygon and has reached the top five most seen individual streams in the history of Twitch. She is surpassed by musician Drake and streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, whose stream had a record 635,000 viewers.
Ocasia Cortez, as per the report, had never played Among Us before her stream though she admitted to practicing a little before the live broadcast. This is not the first time she has been gaming though. According to the report, she has been a League of Legends player and also tried out Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the beginning of this year.
For those of you who have never tried Among Us, it is a 4-10 player game where all players spawn in a spaceship. While most of the players are assigned to be crew members, a few get to become the impostors. The objective? For the crew members, it is to finish all the tasks in the spaceship before the impostor kills them. For the impostor, it is to kill all the crew members. The roles of crew members and impostors are assigned randomly.
