Amazon has made a welcoming and much-needed update in its Prime Video app on iPhone, Apple TV, and iPad. This update will now allow you to rent or buy any movie or TV shows of your choice on your device. This marks a huge shift of approach in Amazon as it mandates a 30 percent cut on all in-app purchases.
This change comes as a result of an agreement between Amazon and Apple that now Apple would stop taking a commission of up to 30 percent on iPhones and its other devices. This hence qualifies premium video entertainment apps such as Prime Video, Canal+ and Altice One with the option to rent or buy movies and TV shows for the customers. They can pay for these by using the payment method tied to their existing video subscription.
Amazon has added a full Store tab to the Prime Video app for you to browse and search for the movie or TV show you want. On finding the movie or show of your choice, you’ll get the option available to rent or buy it. No app update is required from you to see this option, and it’s available at the same price as that for the desktop site. Upon selecting your option, payment confirmation of your choice would pop up on the screen. Once payment confirmation is done the option to play a movie or show will get unlocked.
This option, however, is not available in India as Prime Video doesn’t offer here to buy or rent video content.
