AI to consume all verified internet information by 2026 at an astonishing speed

The information available on the internet, which has been verified over the years and continuously expanded, has now become the primary source for feeding various artificial intelligences. Studies show that all this collected information will be consumed by AI by 2026.

In a recently published report, Live Science wrote that AI models like GPT-4 and Claude 3 Opus could ingest all written information online by 2026.

Artificial intelligence, especially those that feed on written data on the internet, can consume all the [written] information available online within the next two to eight years, leading to serious problems.

According to Live Science, AI’s rapid consumption of existing information knowledge means that tech companies must seek data elsewhere to build better models. This could involve generating synthetic data, turning to lower-quality sources, or, more worryingly, using private data stored on servers containing messages and emails.

Researchers’ findings, published by the preprint journal arXiv, also indicate that high-quality information from credible sources will be exhausted by 2032, and low-quality linguistic data will be used between 2030 and 2050. This scenario raises the possibility of a halt in AI growth, but analysts believe that companies will find new sources of feed: personal information.

The fast-growing AI sector and our increasing dependency on it are set to transform various professions drastically. As AI technologies become more advanced, they are expected to replace jobs that require routine and repetitive tasks, affecting industries like manufacturing, customer service, and even sectors like healthcare and legal services. This displacement could lead to significant unemployment and require substantial retraining and education efforts to prepare the workforce for new types of jobs.

Moreover, the impact of AI on the market in the next decade is expected to be profound. Markets will likely see increased efficiency and productivity as AI optimizes operations and reduces costs. However, this shift could also lead to market consolidation where a few tech-savvy companies dominate, potentially stifling competition and innovation. Small businesses might struggle to compete unless they can adapt quickly to new technologies.

Moreover, the reliance on AI might lead to ethical and regulatory challenges. Issues such as data privacy, the security of AI systems, and the accountability of AI decisions will become increasingly important. Governments and regulatory bodies must create frameworks to manage these challenges while fostering innovation. The societal implications of these changes will be vast, necessitating a balanced approach to harness the benefits of AI while mitigating its risks.
