If fate had taken a different turn, it’s possible that we would be mourning the loss of Jeremy Renner. On New Year’s Day 2023, the actor known for his role in Hawkeye, was operating his snowplow when it lost control on icy terrain. Feeling that his nephew was in the path of danger, Jeremy stepped out of the cab to investigate.
Without warning, the vehicle crushed him, leaving him with 30 broken bones, a cracked skull, pierced liver, and a collapsed lung. Following a critical condition, Renner’s life was saved by doctors who resurrected him with multiple titanium rods, reconstructive facial surgery, and hours of physiotherapy and intense gym sessions.
Chris Hemsworth, one of Renner’s MCU teammates, recently spoke about the incident, describing it as a “scary time,” but he is delighted to see his friend “fighting strong and doing well.”
Renner has remarkably bounced back and is already making red-carpet appearances to promote his Disney Plus series, Rennervations. While he waits for Marvel Studios to call him, Renner remains hopeful that he’ll reprise his role as Clint Barton for one last hurrah. During a recent convention appearance, Renner revealed that he’s ready and willing to return to the set and take up his bow in one last shoot-out. He’d do it “In a heartbeat.”
It would be inspiring to weave Renner’s real-life accident into Clint Barton’s story, especially if a second season of Hawkeye featured Renner as a mentor, guiding Kate Bishop as she officially steps into the “Hawkeye” codename. We look forward to hearing more from Marvel Studios soon and anticipate seeing the few remaining original Avengers back in action.
