After drastically reducing its US workforce, Evernote is now moving its base of operations to Europe

Evernote, the popular note-taking app, has made significant changes to its workforce. Bending Spoons, the Milan-based app developer that acquired Evernote last year, announced that it has laid off the majority of Evernote employees in the US and Chile. The company plans to relocate most of its operations to Europe. This comes as a result of Evernote’s ongoing financial struggles, which led to the previous layoff of 129 employees a few months ago. The exact number of employees affected by these recent layoffs has not been disclosed.

In a statement to SFGate, Bending Spoons CEO Luca Ferrari expressed his ambitious plans for Evernote. He stated that a dedicated team located in Europe will take over the management of the product. This team will be supported by over 400 skilled employees at Bending Spoons, many of whom have been working on Evernote since the acquisition. Ferrari also mentioned that affected employees will receive 16 weeks of salary, a prorated performance bonus, and up to one year of health insurance.

However, Bending Spoons has not provided specific details on how it intends to ensure the success of Evernote in a highly competitive market with rivals like Notion and Obsidian. Nevertheless, this development marks a significant setback for Evernote, once a beloved app with a valuation of $1 billion at its peak. The company’s decline can be attributed to a lack of focus and the presence of software issues in recent years.
