After decades-long search, wreck of WWII special-ops submarine HMS Triumph discovered by British team.

Veteran diver Kostas Thoctarides has discovered the remains of the HMS Triumph, a Royal Navy submarine that was lost during the Second World War. Thoctarides found the long-lost vessel at the bottom of the Aegean Sea, 25 years after a search for the ship began. The wreck’s location was identified by researchers from Britain, Italy, Greece and Germany. The submarine had undertaken a number of “difficult and dangerous” missions during its 20 combat patrols, including the successful sinking of several enemy ships. Triumph’s final mission was to coordinate the escape of 30 British refugees in Antiparos. The vessel is believed to have been destroyed by a high-powered explosion in its front section.
