Additional Behind-the-Scenes Details Revealed Prior to June 16th Launch

As we gear up for The Flash’s release this month, promotions and the hype are on in full swing, which also means more teases and stories from behind the scenes are surfacing. The latest one comes from Michael Keaton, as he spilled the beans on the development of his Batman’s comeback to the DCU. He also revealed that one of his most iconic lines of from the 1989 Batman movie, that ultimately found its way into the upcoming Flash movie as well, wouldn’t even have existed if it weren’t for Keaton himself.

Here’s the story behind “Let’s get nuts”

The Flash trailer revealed a major callback to Keaton’s 1989 Batman film- “You wanna get nuts, let’s get nuts.” But turns out, this iconic line wasn’t even a part of the original script for the 1989 Batman movie. In an interview with Empire, Keaton revealed that it was he who came up with the iconic “You wanna get nuts, let’s get nuts.” in a brain-storming session for the scene. He said,

“That scene was never really that good as written, to be honest with you. That was one of the days where we went round and round. I think Kim’s in it, me and Jack, nobody could ever find it. I thought, ‘okay, pressure’s on, man. Pressure. Is. On.’ I thought he’d probably said, ‘Okay, I’m kind of cornered, I only have one way to go and I’d better let this character know that we’re gonna throw down.’ There was so much figuring it out as we went along.”

And that’s how “Let’s get nuts” came into being.

The Flash takes Keaton’s Batman’s story forward from 1992’s Batman Returns

Director Andy Muschietti also revealed some more information on the Batman that we’ll see in The Flash. He says that The Flash’s Batman is a continuation of the story from where Tim Burton left things in Batman Returns (1992). Sure, there’s been certain changes given that some time’s passed, and Michael Keaton’s Dark Knight has been masquerading as the caped crusader in the meantime. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Muschietti said,

“Yeah, it was a continuation in the sense that the world where we find Michael Keaton is the same universe where he was in his adventures in the Tim Burton movies. It’s just, you know, we have to take some licenses. Some creative licenses to replicate some of the things that are designed. Make things evolve because I wanted Batman to have kept being Batman for a few more years after we saw him for the last time.

So, there’s things in his technology and his gadgets that have changed and evolved like the Bat Wing. For instance, it’s now a three-seater instead of one. It has that rotating thing and the suit is different. It’s slightly different. The Bat Cave has some innovations as well. But, it’s still kind of obsolete for the present day. But, still more evolved than the last time we saw it.”

A script’s already complete for The Flash sequel

In other news, it has been revealed that the script for sequel to the upcoming The Flash has already been completed. According to Variety, there’s a “finished sequel script from David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (“Aquaman”) if a Part 2 is in the cards.” It reportedly features Michael Keaton’s Batman and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. As for who will play The Flash, it’s very unlikely for Ezra Miller to get recasted, given how impressed the Muschietti is with their performance in The Flash.

The Flash hits theatres across the world this month on June 16. It is the concluding film of the Snyderverse of DCU.
