The Flash is ready to sprint into theaters tomorrow, and all eyes are on Andy Muschietti’s ambitious comic book movie to discover which level of hype it will live up to. Will it exhilarate audiences like it did James Gunn, who proclaimed it his favorite film of the year? Or will it settle for being the pinnacle of the DC Extended Universe, which isn’t exactly the highest accolade in the world?
Undoubtedly, the details surrounding The Flash are undeniably intriguing. However, there is one aspect of the film that has generated limitless anticipation: Sasha Calle’s debut as Supergirl. The actress’ first appearance in the DC universe has been one of the most hotly anticipated events of the year, and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing her on the big screen tomorrow.
As it turns out, embracing the big screen has brought many small joys, and Calle’s favorite among them is the Supergirl Barbie doll fashioned in her likeness. She takes the toy with her everywhere she goes, which is incredibly endearing. But what’s even more adorable is the name she has given it, as revealed in an interview with CinemaBlend:
“Yesterday, my publicist asked, ‘Where’s Supergirl?’ And I replied, ‘Smalls?’ And he said, ‘Oh my god. That’s her name: Smalls.’ So one of her nicknames is Smalls. But I love her and I take her everywhere with me. It’s such a joy and it constantly brightens up the room. Smalls.”
Whether it’s a playful reference to Smallville or simply because the doll is a smaller version of Calle herself, the fact that the actress named her Barbie doll Smalls is perhaps the most heartwarming tidbit we’ll hear from a comic book movie all year. We would gladly support a DC Elseworlds project featuring Smalls’ stop-motion adventures.
The Flash will be released in theaters on June 16.
