The horror genre has been a constant favorite for moviegoers, tapping into their primal desire to be scared and on edge. However, this doesn’t always guarantee a good movie experience, as some movies like The Bye Bye Man end up being outright crimes against cinema. Despite receiving negative reviews from both critics and audiences, the supernatural slasher managed to make close to $30 million at the box office, all thanks to its low budget of under $7.5 million. However, its legacy did not come from its storyline or onscreen moments but from the long-lasting meme it spawned.
Director Stacy Title’s story of terror has become infamous beyond any of the creators’ imaginations due to the meme it spawned, featuring Doug Jones as a vengeful spirit and a talented ensemble cast with the likes of Carrie-Anne Moss, Faye Dunaway, Leigh Whannell, and even Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas. Its new name, The Peepee Poopoo Man, has perpetuated the movie’s subpar reputation even further.
Recently, streaming service subscribers can’t seem to get enough of the infamous horror movie, with FlixPatrol naming it one of the most-watched features on Chili. It won’t take long for them to find out why this movie gained so much notoriety.
