A Guide to Purchasing the Pixel Fold in Canada

The highly sought-after Google Pixel Fold cannot be purchased through normal means in Canada.

Officially, Google only sells the foldable handset in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Japan, leaving Canadians excluded from the folding fun. However, a dedicated reader from MobileSyrup managed to acquire the Pixel Fold and shared their process with us.

It is important to note that this is not an official method of purchasing the smartphone, and results may vary. I personally have not attempted to buy the Pixel Fold through this method (at least not yet).

Here’s how the reader successfully bought the Google Pixel Fold in Canada:

The Process of Acquiring the Pixel Fold

The reader logged in to the Google Store using their existing Google account.

They then navigated to the bottom of the page and switched to the U.S. store, where the Pixel Fold was available for pre-order.

They added the phone, a case, and received a free Pixel Watch into their cart.

It is worth mentioning that these items will be transferred to your Canadian account and will appear in your list of previously purchased items.

The Google site requires a U.S. address for shipping. To solve this issue, the reader used shippsy.com. This platform provided them with a U.S. address in Sanborn, New York. Unlike some PO boxes, shippsy.com is a business that receives and signs for items. After the items arrived at the facility, the reader sent several documents, including the receipt and the price of the items. It is important to note that the customs fees were not cheap. Shippsy charged a $6.99 fee, and there were additional duties of $33.78, as well as a $334.33 HST (VAT) payment.

Overall, using shippsy.com added approximately a week to the order fulfillment process.

During the payment section, the reader’s card was initially accepted through Google Pay. However, when asked for a ZIP code, it was rejected as Canadian cards are not accepted. To resolve this, the reader obtained a U.S. dollar Mastercard through BMO. This process was “quick and painless.” Other Canadian banks also offer similar U.S. dollar credit cards. The reader notes that paying off the card via their BMO Mastercard was a simple process.

The bank suggested using the numbers from their postal code and adding zeros. However, this did not work for them, so they used the famous zip code ‘90210,’ which was successful.

Once the payment was processed, the reader received the Pixel Fold. They have not experienced any signal-related issues with the foldable device while using Telus as their service provider. However, they mention that the Pixel Watch only works on Wi-Fi, as Telus does not support the U.S. IMEI code.

And that’s it! That is the entire process of acquiring the Pixel Fold in Canada.

We would like to thank the MobileSyrup reader who wished to remain anonymous. Your updates throughout the process were greatly appreciated.
