Overwatch 2 has quickly earned the unfortunate title of being Steam’s worst-rated game ever, just three days after its release.
The highly-anticipated Overwatch 2: Invasion was launched on August 10, marking the game’s debut on Steam. However, by August 12, it had reached an undesirable milestone: Overwatch 2 now holds the lowest user score on Steam, a record no developer wants to achieve.
Steam’s Hall of Shame, a website that tracks user ratings, reveals that over 100,000 players have reviewed the free-to-play shooter, with a staggering 91 percent of the reviews being negative.
One disgruntled player expressed their dissatisfaction by saying, “Big mistake coming to Steam. Now you have the whole community critiquing your game accurately for all Steam users to see.”
Another reviewer wrote, “Overwatch 2 has no respect for you, it’s an attempt to pry open your wallet while masquerading as the game it used to be.”
The major source of contention among players seems to be the game’s monetization model. However, there are also complaints about the lack of community moderation and dissatisfaction with the game’s content schedule.
Another player chimed in, stating, “This game has been review bombed, and I’ve seen backlash from others saying how it’s unfair. Let me tell you firsthand, no it is not! In my opinion, this is more than deserved for what Blizzard has done. As someone who has played hundreds of hours of both Overwatch 1 and 2, I have a good idea of what is going on.”
Since its release, the overall user score has steadily plummeted and now stands at a dismal 0.96 out of 10, putting it below games like Redfall, eFootball, and Battlefield 2042, all of which have faced similar negative feedback from players.
Did you catch the news that John Cena has been making surprise appearances as a “mysterious hacker” disrupting popular Overwatch 2 content creators? If you’ve been following Overwatch 2 closely, you may have noticed a hooded figure infiltrating streams of prominent community members such as Kyedae, Scump, and Shroud.
Recently, this mysterious figure known as “The Enigma” has revealed himself to be none other than John Cena, urging players to “prepare for the invasion.” The Enigma has been warning of the impending threat of Null Sector, described as “an antagonistic group of Omnics that will soon invade the world of Overwatch.”
However, despite the excitement of the invasion, some players have expressed disappointment with the limited content available. One player wrote, “Overwatch 2: Invasions is officially out and playable now, and while the three missions are clearly well-built and a lot of fun, I can’t help but think that something’s missing.”
They continued, “Overwatch 2 Season 6 doesn’t only bring a new omnic-themed Battle Pass, but it’s also brought three new story missions. Each three follows a group of the roster who fight for Overwatch, assembling the team to face the new omnic crisis facing the world.”
