Disney+ and Hulu users will soon be facing some changes as the prices for ad-free subscriptions are increasing. Additionally, Disney is taking steps to crack down on password sharing, following in the footsteps of Netflix. This move may be in response to the decline in global Disney+ subscribers, which dropped by 4 million during the second quarter, marking only the second time this has occurred.

In an effort to combat password sharing, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed during the company’s quarterly conference call that they are actively seeking solutions. He stated, “We are actively exploring ways to address account sharing and the best options for paying subscribers to share their accounts with friends and family. Later this year, we will begin to update our subscriber agreements with additional terms and our sharing policies. And we will roll out tactics to drive monetization sometime in 2024.”
Iger also mentioned, “We already have the technical capability to monitor much of this, and I’m not gonna give you a specific number except to say it’s significant. We certainly have established this as a real priority, and we actually think that there’s an opportunity here to help us grow our business.”
If Iger’s timeline is accurate, users who currently share passwords on Disney+ will have until the end of this year to continue doing so.
