Apple Testing M3 Max-Equipped MacBook Pro: A Powerhouse in the Making

Additionally, it is said to have 40 GPU cores, along with a whopping 48GB of integrated RAM.
For comparison, the current highest-end 16-inch MacBook Pro already offers a 12-core CPU, a 38-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine, with the option to upgrade to 96GB of RAM and up to 8TB of SSD storage. The price tag for this configuration currently stands at $6,500, but professionals who need the power find it well worth the investment.
However, the M3 Max-equipped MacBook Pro will take portable computing to an entirely new level. In addition to more cores, the M3 chips will be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm production process, as opposed to the 5nm process used for the M2 series. This advancement is expected to deliver enhanced battery life and significant performance gains on its own.
Unfortunately, Apple fans will have to exercise some patience, as the release of the M3 Max-powered MacBook Pro is not expected until 2024, potentially in January when Apple typically unveils its high-end chip portfolio updates.
For those who don’t require such extreme power, Apple will likely offer more affordable M3 chips as well. The base M3 chip is anticipated to have a configuration similar to the base M2 chip, featuring eight CPU cores and up to 10 GPU cores. Meanwhile, the M3 Pro is expected to start with 12 CPU cores and 18 GPU cores, surpassing the M2 Pro’s current lineup of 10 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores.
Looking ahead, we predict that the first M3 devices will likely hit the market in October 2023, potentially including the M3-equipped 13-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac. As for the 15-inch MacBook Air and other laptops and desktops equipped with the M3 Pro and M3 Max (and potentially the M3 Ultra), we may have to wait until 2024 to get our hands on them.
