Not necessarily because of any groundbreaking events or memorable moments, but mainly because it marked the release of the highly anticipated film A Quiet Place Part II. And now, exciting new details have emerged regarding the third installment of the franchise, Part III!
Our knowledge of the third movie in the series has been in existence since around February, when Paramount officially announced the development of a sequel. Though thus far, our understanding has been limited to the tentative plan of a 2025 release. Fortunately, the gracious and talented Emily Blunt, a star in the films, recently provided an update during an interview with Josh Horowitz before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes commenced.
Blunt revealed that she has had conversations with her husband, Director John Krasinski, and co-star Cillian Murphy, both of whom expressed their enthusiasm for continuing the franchise:
“Well, Cillian [Murphy] and I were having a chat with John [Krasinski] about it last night. We were sitting on a rooftop all together drinking wine and… ‘You know what would be great? Is if we keep this thing going…’ I think there’s… it would have to be that we would all do it together.”
Who among us hasn’t entertained grandiose plans while sipping wine on a rooftop? Additionally, Blunt emphasized her desire for Krasinski to continue directing if another film were to be made. For his part, Krasinski has already teased his concept for the third movie in a previous interview.
Blunt further stated that even if sequels were not initially intended, the expansive nature of the story presented enough potential for further exploration.
“Why not? I always said when we were approaching this one, I said, ‘I think you need to think of it not as a sequel, but this is chapter two, this is just a continuation.’ I think there’s such an investment in this family – such mileage for expansion in this kind of extraordinary world. I think there’s room [for a third film].”
Considering the possible direction of a sequel, it would be logical for the story to pick up after Regan’s discovery of a mysterious signal leading her to safety on an island with other survivors. If this were the case, audiences might finally witness humanity’s counterattack against the menacing aliens.
While the original plan was to release the movie in 2025, it is not far-fetched to anticipate potential delays due to the ongoing strikes.
