Ewan McGregor makes his highly anticipated return to the big screen in the upcoming film “Mother, Couch,” directed by Niclas Larsson. Joining McGregor in the cast are esteemed actors Ellen Burstyn and Taylor Russell. This unique film is based on the acclaimed Swedish novel “Mamma I Soffa” and follows the journey of three siblings attempting to convince their mother to leave a furniture store’s iconic green couch. With its blend of comedy and existential challenges, “Mother, Couch” promises to captivate audiences.

The film will have its premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, where it will showcase in the esteemed San Sebastian New Directors competition. Murray Abraham joins the cast as Bella, the store manager, while Lake Bell, known for her voice work as Poison Ivy in Harley Quinn, also stars. The story takes its characters on a surreal journey filled with surprising family revelations.

Behind the camera, director Niclas Larsson, known for his successful commercial work for brands like Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, brings his expertise and unique vision to his feature-length directorial debut. The production of “Mother, Couch” is led by Lyrical Media founder Alex Black, Fat City co-founder Sara Murphy, and producers Ella Bishop and Pau Suris. McGregor also takes on the role of executive producer alongside Jon Rosenberg, Ryan Zacarias, Natalie Sellers, and David Harari. The film is set to make its world debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, followed by its European premiere at the San Sebastian New Directors competition.

Fans of compelling cinema can also look forward to other exciting films showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival, including Taika Waititi’s sports drama “Next Goal Wins,” starring Michael Fassbender and Elisabeth Moss, Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut “Woman of the Hour,” and Chris Pine’s first foray into directing with “Poolman.” The festival will also feature the debut of the documentary “Hate to Love,” which focuses on the band Nickelback.
