Players in ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ assume the role of Jabba the Hutt’s employees.

In the upcoming game Star Wars Outlaws, players will have the opportunity to work for and possibly betray notorious criminal syndicates from the Star Wars franchise, including the one led by the infamous crime boss Jabba the Hutt.

During an interview with IGN, creative director Julian Gerighty revealed that the game’s protagonist, Kay Vess, will need to carefully manage her reputation with these criminal factions in the universe.

“The strength of your reputation will determine the quality of jobs you receive, the prices you get at their stores, and the level of access you have to their territories,” explained Gerighty. “But if your relationship sours, they won’t hesitate to send people after you.”

The game’s core gameplay involves manipulating the syndicates against each other and making decisions and dilemmas related to completing quests. As a result, each player will have a unique profile reflecting their adventure through the high-stakes world of scoundrels and reputation with the syndicates.

According to IGN, Vess will spend time at Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tattooine. Players will have the choice to complete jobs for Jabba or betray the crime lord, but the latter option will come with consequences for Vess.

However, Vess will not only have to contend with the syndicates. Gerighty previously revealed that Star Wars Outlaws will feature a wanted system similar to Red Dead Redemption, where the Empire will unleash a massive force to capture Vess if she breaks too many rules.

“At the highest levels, the Empire will throw significant resistance and forces in your path,” Gerighty warned. “It’s best to avoid them as much as possible.”

In addition, Gerighty mentioned that Ubisoft Massive drew inspiration from 1970s films to create a grittier and more immersive Star Wars adventure.
