Evernote Announces Staff Layoffs and Relocation to Europe

Evernote, the popular note-taking app, has recently undergone significant changes. After being acquired by Italian firm Bending Spoons, the company has decided to move all its operations to Europe. This unexpected move has resulted in mass layoffs across Evernote’s various US locations.

The announcement of this decision was not made in the official acquisition announcement or the letter from Bending Spoons CEO Luca Ferrari earlier this year. Employees were only informed of the layoffs on July 5, nearly two weeks after the announcement that Evernote operations would be relocated to Europe.

In an official blog post, Evernote confirms the move to Europe and states that it required laying off a significant number of employees based in Chile and the US. The company assures that they are committed to supporting the laid-off workers. The package offered to those affected includes 16 weeks of salary, up to a year of health insurance coverage, and a performance bonus.

Despite the layoffs, Evernote emphasizes that the remaining workforce will have the opportunity to benefit from the expertise and strength of the 400-plus employees at Bending Spoons. Some Bending Spoons workers have already taken on Evernote-related tasks since the acquisition.

When asked for clarification on the extent of the layoffs and whether employees were given the option to transfer to the new European offices, Evernote did not provide an immediate response. Additionally, it is unclear whether this move will create new job opportunities in the European market.
