Earlier this week, Twitter initiated the migration of its users to the “new” version of TweetDeck. This decision came after a temporary break in the previous iteration of its list aggregator, which resulted in a limit on the number of tweets people could view. However, for many users, this migration was seen as a downgrade due to the absence of certain features found in the previous version. If you wish to revert to the previous release of TweetDeck, you now have the option to do so, although it is highly likely that this option will only be available for a limited time.
As reported by The Verge, some Twitter users noticed the return of the old TweetDeck without any official announcement from Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, Elon Musk, or any of the company’s official social accounts. In addition, a few developers, including Roberto Doering, the creator of Harpy, discovered that Twitter’s legacy API was once again functional, allowing their third-party clients to resume operations. However, the longevity of this functionality is uncertain.
Doering acknowledged that this resumption of service does not guarantee the maintenance of Harpy, as it is highly probable that Twitter will soon restrict access to their legacy API once again. It is important to note that the use of third-party apps still violates Twitter’s Terms of Service. Doering expressed these thoughts on Harpy’s GitHub page. When Twitter initially enforced the migration to the new TweetDeck, they stated that users would need verification to continue using the tool, implying that most people would require a subscription to Twitter Blue for continued access.
