Pat McAfee recently addressed the ESPN layoffs and the criticism he has been receiving regarding his new deal with Disney on social media.

Last week, The Walt Disney Company announced a series of layoffs and budget cuts, resulting in approximately 20 on-air personalities being let go from ESPN. This decision was made as part of the company’s efforts to save $5.5 billion. Some of the well-known names affected by the layoffs include David Pollack, Jalen Rose, Jordan Cornette, Suzy Kolber, Max Kellerman, and Jeff Van Gundy. Interestingly, just before these layoffs, multiplatform host Pat McAfee had signed a new multi-year agreement with Disney to expand his presence at ESPN. This timing sparked backlash on social media, leading McAfee to address the issue on Twitter.

In his tweet, McAfee shared behind-the-scenes images from his show and expressed his gratitude for being the leader of a talented team. He acknowledged the criticism he faced on the internet but emphasized his excitement to join ESPN and his commitment to preventing future layoffs. McAfee also expressed his respect for the individuals who lost their jobs and wished he could have worked with them.

In addition to The Pat McAfee Show moving to ESPN, McAfee will also contribute to the network’s digital and social platforms. He will continue his role as a college football analyst on ESPN’s College GameDay Built by The Home Depot and host various “alternate presentations” of ESPN college football telecasts. There have been rumors of McAfee signing an $85 million, 5-year deal.
