Big Man in a Little Suit
Greetings, my esteemed friends and companions. Welcome to Whatcha Been Playing? Today, your faithful friend Moyse finds himself with a growling stomach and a regrettable shortage of Jaffa Cakes due to my recent commitment to a diet. Weight loss has always been an arduous journey for me, as someone naturally endowed with a larger build and a deep emotional connection to food, especially as I enter middle age. However, I am determined to stay on track for an upcoming event in August, even though I have a completely foolish plan to attend in cosplay.
It’s an odd mix of feelings—I am simultaneously devoted and hesitant about appearing at VSFighting XI in August dressed as a fictional character. I have the costume, and it fits me perfectly, but my weight remains a considerable concern. I can only muster the confidence to stand among a crowd of strangers if I truly believe I “look good” in character. Wish me luck, and if any of you are struggling with your own self-esteem, know that you are in a judgment-free zone here. We are all friends, and we stand with you.
At Destructoid, we always bring out the best in you.
Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting
The plan for this weekend (whether it actually comes to fruition or not) is for me to venture out of town for a small Street Fighter 6 tournament. This will be my first offline meetup since the release of the new sequel. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking to join a tournament a few weeks into a new fighter’s life, as it reveals how well you truly fare in the competitive scene. It can boost your confidence, but it can also dash the pride you’ve built up in those early weeks.
If I decide to go—with Juri accompanying me—it will be an eye-opening experience that showcases how my progress in SF6 compares to typical online play. Everyone has a different playstyle offline, and your established habits can come back to haunt you, while your expectations about other characters may crumble. However, it will also be a lot of fun, and if you haven’t noticed, I tend to focus on the serious stuff and forget to simply enjoy myself. Hopefully, if I make it there today, I can prioritize the latter.
Famous last words.
Don’t Go Breaking My Heart
Before I delve back into the world of rewarding weight loss and bruised pride (because let’s face it, I really don’t want to go 0-2), I would like to hear from you. Tell me about your world—what you’ve been up to lately and, of course, what you’ve been playing. Whether you’re diving into the finest offerings of 2023, slowly making your way through your backlog (not a euphemism), or taking a break from video games to indulge in movies, comics, or even chainsaw ice sculptures—share it all with us. Let’s make the comments section for this weekend a real blast!
Oh, and have a marvelous weekend, courtesy of the entire Destructoid team.
