Adding a Nose to the Pikmin 4 Dog: A Regretful Decision

Pikmin 4 will feature an interesting companion called Oatchi. Although Oatchi is not exactly a dog, it resembles one and will join us on our upcoming adventure. This canine-like creature is capable of swimming, assisting us in battles, removing obstacles, rescuing castaways, and even playing tug of war.

What sets Oatchi apart is its peculiar appearance. Initially, it looks like an adorable yellow puppy, but closer observation reveals that it lacks a nose, hops on two legs, and has a fluffy dandelion seed tail. This discovery prompted me to delve into Oatchi’s true nature.

Despite referring to Oatchi as a dog, its unique features suggest otherwise. It sparked confusion, and I began to question what Oatchi really is.

When I tried adding noses to Oatchi, inspired by Scooby-Doo, it didn’t quite fit.

Out of curiosity, I experimented with various noses on Oatchi, including one borrowed from Scooby-Doo. However, these attempts only made Oatchi appear more peculiar. It became apparent that Oatchi is better off without a nose. Yet, I couldn’t help but wonder about the true identity of this dog-like creature.

My quest to uncover Oatchi’s true nature led me to explore the extensive Pikmin lore. Thanks to the Pikmin Fandom, I discovered that Oatchi could potentially be part of the Grub-dog family, which includes species such as Bulborb and Bulblax. Although Oatchi’s appearance is more canine-like, it is undoubtedly a cross-breed between mammals and plants, similar to the Pikmin themselves.

If you can identify the dog whose nose I superimposed on Oatchi, you deserve bonus points (which mean nothing, really).

In the Pikmin universe, the only other known canine companion is Bulbie, Captain Olimar’s dog on the home-planet of Hocotate. Interestingly, the Grub-dog name originated from Olimar’s dog resembling a Bulborb with its eye stalks. It is possible that Oatchi’s appearance is somehow connected to Bulbie or Captain Olimar. Perhaps Oatchi ended up on PNF-404 during its search for life. However, the exact details of how Oatchi arrived remain a mystery.

Despite its peculiar appearance, Oatchi is undeniably adorable, and I would personally defend it against any slander. It is highly likely that this peculiar companion is an alien from another planet. After all, there is no one quite like Oatchi on PNF-404, except for the castaway-kidnapping Green Oatchi with perkier ears and a leaf for a tail. The mysteries surrounding Oatchi only increase my anticipation for Pikmin 4 and the surprises it holds.
