HGTV is jumping on the Barbie craze with their latest project, Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge, which will bring the iconic Mattel creation to life. The show, airing on July 16th, will be hosted by supermodel, designer, and author, Ashley Graham, and will feature eight teams, each made up of members from the HGTV and Food Network families. Contestants will be challenged to unleash their creativity and create a place that Barbie would be proud to call home, with acclaimed designer and Barbie collaborator, Jonathan Adler, serving as head judge alongside Tiffany Brooks.
Pushing Stars to Their Limits
In each of the four episodes, a section of the Barbie Dreamhouse will be brought to life by contestants. Expect to see plenty of nostalgia and callbacks to the world of Barbie, including a light-up dance floor, hat carousel in the closet, and pet elevators throughout the home. The winning team will receive a donation made in their honor to the Save The Children Foundation.
Coinciding with the Upcoming Film
The show’s release date will coincide with the release of the Warner Bros. Pictures film, Barbie, which will star Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. The film, directed by Greta Gerwig and written by Noah Baumbach, will feature well-known supporting actors such as Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa, Simu Liu, and John Cena.
Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge and Barbie will be the first live-action feature for the Mattel toy.
First created in 1959 by Ruth Handler, the fashion doll has gone on to star in a number of animated movies, including Barbie in the Nutcracker that kicked off a series of films airing on Nickelodeon in 2001.
Don’t miss out on this exciting new series and film!
