Losing your smartphone is one of the most stressful things you can go through, especially when it is expensive. If you or someone in your family has recently been caught in such a situation, then you can visit the newly launched government portal CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) to submit a request for tracking your lost or stolen smartphone.
The idea was kickstarted back in September 2019 in collaboration with DoT (Department of Telecom), CDOT (Center for Development Telematics), and the Delhi Police. After months of development, the service is now finally open for residents of Delhi NCR and Maharastra.
When someone puts a different SIM card in your lost or stolen device, the network operator logs in the device’s unique IMEI number for identification purposes. CEIR’s special access to those logs gives them the ability to track the IMEI number of your device. It is a much more reliable solution than Google’s Find My Phone feature, which requires the devices to be logged in to a Google account and connected to an active internet connection, either over Wi-Fi or cellular data.
If you want to find your lost or stolen smartphone using the CEIR portal, then this guide will help you do it. Continue reading this article to learn more.
Guide to Submit a Request on CEIR
The first thing you will need to do is submit a police complaint regarding your lost or stolen device at your nearby police station. If you have already done it, then follow the steps below.
- Open a web browser on another smartphone or PC.
- Next, visit CEIR’s official website, and click on Block Stolen/Lost Mobile.
- Fill up the form related to the device and personal information. It will be used to track and block your device’s IMEI.
After you submit the form successfully, you will be given a Request ID. You can use it to check the request status and track your stolen device.
Unblock your Device’s IMEI Number
If you are fortunate enough to get your smartphone back through the CEIR portal, then you can unblock the IMEI number of your device from the same place.
- Visit the CEIR Portal page and click on Un-Block Found Mobile.
- Enter the Request ID and the mobile number you have previously used for OTP while filling the request form.
- Verify the OTP and click Submit.
Your device IMEI number will be unblocked in a couple of hours.
