10 Unsolved MCU Mysteries We Still Desperately Need Answered

With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Secret Invasion, we are now three projects into Phase Five of the MCU. These projects are gradually building up to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars in 2026 and 2027, where the new characters will come together to defeat Kang the Conqueror. However, even with the 32 movies and nine Disney Plus shows, there are still many unanswered questions. Here are ten things we need to know now!

10. How did Old Man Steve Rogers return to the main timeline at the end of Endgame?
In Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers volunteers to return the stolen Infinity Stones and reappears as an old man, having lived a full life with Peggy Carter. The Russo Brothers claim he used his quantum suit and Pym Particles to jump timelines, while the Endgame writers suggest he simply inserted himself into the core MCU timeline. It would be great if Marvel Studios clarified this, but the ambiguity could also leave room for Chris Evans to return.

9. Where do the Ten Rings come from?
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduces these powerful jewelry pieces, but their origin and arrival on Earth remain unexplained. In the credits scene, Shang-Chi, Captain Marvel, and Bruce Banner discuss their age, hinting that they have been around for much longer than a thousand years. In the comics, the rings are associated with an alien species, so perhaps the MCU will explore this in the future.

8. What happened to 616 Mordo?
Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo was a fascinating character in Doctor Strange, but his whereabouts are currently unknown. He turned against the sorcerers after realizing they were abusing their power, and in Multiverse of Madness, it is mentioned that he dedicated his life to trying to kill Doctor Strange. Director Sam Raimi confirmed that Mordo was supposed to appear in the film, but his scenes were cut. Hopefully, we get to see more of his crusade against the mystic arts in the future.

7. Did Red Skull escape Vormir?
In Captain America: The First Avenger, Red Skull is teleported to Vormir and becomes the guardian of the Soul Stone. After the events of Avengers: Infinity War, the Red Skull is technically free to leave Vormir, but we don’t know his current whereabouts. He may have starved on the desolate planet or is plotting his return to Earth. Only time will tell.

6. Who bought Avengers Tower?
Formerly known as Stark Tower, Avengers Tower is an iconic building in the MCU. After being used as the Avengers headquarters, Tony Stark sells it in 2016. In Hawkeye, Clint Barton mentions that Tony sold it, but we don’t know who the current owner is. The building still retains its Avengers legacy, but the owner’s identity remains a mystery.

5. What’s going to happen with Tiamut?
Eternals introduced the Celestial Tiamut, who was born from the center of the Earth. If the process had been completed, the planet would have been destroyed. However, Tiamut’s petrified body remains in the Indian Ocean. There haven’t been any significant developments regarding Tiamut, but we can hope that the issue will be addressed in future MCU projects.

4. The Spider-Man: Homecoming timeline inconsistency
Spider-Man: Homecoming opens in 2012, immediately after The Avengers’ Battle of New York. However, the timeline doesn’t quite add up with later events in the MCU. This inconsistency has yet to be resolved and may require clarification from Marvel Studios.

By addressing these unanswered questions, Marvel Studios can provide fans with a more complete and satisfying cinematic universe.
