Just after a month of its global announcement, Motorola has launched its latest Android One bases mid-range smartphone in the Indian market. Surprisingly, this is the first smartphone in India to feature a 21:9 CinemaVision display. The Motorola One Vision is categorized under Android One lineup that offers a stock Android experience.
As mentioned above, Motorola One Vision is a mid-range smartphone featuring good sets of specifications. However, it is going to be a tough fight for this smartphone to survive in intense competition. As there are a lot of smartphones available under a price range of Rs. 20,000 that feature great specifications. So today, we will review it to find out whether it will be a good choice for you to consider Motorola One Vision in this budget. Did it really justify its price for these specifications? Design and Display
As we mentioned above, the Motorola One Vision features 21:9 CinemaVision display, due to which it features a tall body design. In addition, it appears a tad bit slimmer, that perfectly sits in your hands as well as in your pocket. The company has made many improvements in the Moto One Vision in comparison to the previous models.
Like most of the Motorola phones, it features glossy finish at the back panel. Thanks to the gradient glass that gives it a premium look. Due to its plastic body and curved edges, it becomes easier for us to make a good grip to the phone. However, the phone is quite heavy at 180 grams without the cover, and with cover, it gets even heavier.
Motorola One Vision comes in two color variants – Bronze Gradient and Sapphire Gradient. Functional buttons on Motorola One Vision are placed in such a manner that they are easier accessible. On the right side of the body, there placed the power and volume buttons while at the left of the panel there sits the SIM tray.
At the top of the body, you’ll find a 3.5mm headphone jack coupled with a secondary microphone. While at the bottom of the panel, you will find a single speaker grill which is pretty loud, a USB 2.0 Type-C port for charging and a primary microphone.
Now coming to the display, Motorola One Vision sports a 6.3-inch FHD+ (1080×2520 pixels) display with 21:9 aspect ratio and a punch-hole design on the top. Further, the screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass protection. At the beginning phase, the punch-hole design was quite distracting over a long display, However, as soon as we become familiar with that it doesn’t create disturbance anymore.
With CinemaVision display, you will get a completely different video viewing experience than what you get on normal 18:9 display. Motorola says it would provide you cinema-like experience because the movies follow the same aspect ratio, and the phone also has Dolby Audio support. Apart from this, the sunlight legibility is great on the phone, and so is the brightness levels. The warmer display tone is soothing to eyes and the adaptive brightness works decently to adjust screen brightness in different lighting conditions.
Specifications and Software
As for the specifications, the Motorola One Vision is powered by octa-core Samsung Exynos 9609 SoC, clocked at 2.2GHz which is coupled with Mali G72 MP3 GPU. Additionally, it comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage which can be expanded up to 512GB via a MicroSD card.
As I mentioned above, this smartphone comes with a hybrid-SIM tray which lets you use either a SIM and MicroSD card together or dual 4G SIM at a time. The phone also comes with good connectivity options as it includes dual 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, also, it carries the standard suite of sensors.
On the software end, Motorola One Vision is categorized under Android One program and so, it runs on the latest stock Android 9 Pie software out-of-the-box with a few worthy additional features from Motorola. It also comes with a couple of pre-installed apps including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. It features a clean and immersive UI which makes it easier for the user to handle this phone.
Performance, Camera, and Battery Life
It was quite surprising that Motorola uses Samsung’s chip in the One Vision instead of a chip either from Qualcomm or MediaTek. However, the company has wisely chosen the chip for its latest mid-range smartphone that gives enough power to this phone to perform well on benchmarks. As mentioned above, the handset comes powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Samsung Exynos 9609 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM.
The Exynos 9609 SoC is very capable to smoothly run day-to-day normal uses. Even it can easily perform heavy multi-tasking without any problem. Although the phone is delivered with 4GB of RAM, the phone does not heat, neither it lags, it is quite snappy, and you don’t feel the need for 6GB RAM.
As far as we have come across to the Moto One Vision, we were able to run some high-end games like PUBG: Mobile & asphalt 9: Legends smoothly in modest graphics setting. Even PUBG smoothly runs on HD Graphic setting without getting lag. However, we observed a very few frame drops after playing for half an hour or more. However, it was negligible and didn’t affect gaming performance. Overall, the processor and software combination provides a better experience on this device and Motorola should be credited for it.
Coming to the camera department, Motorola One Vision features a dual-rear camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.7 lens with optical image stabilization support. There’s also a 5-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture. On the front, there’s a 25-megapixel shooter with an f/2.0 lens for selfies and video calling.
Coming specifically to the rear camera, the primary camera on Motorola One Vision works great in the daylight condition. It managed quality imaging with great details. The contrast, brightness and sharpness levels were nice as well. The camera also performs great in the low-light condition. The dedicated Night Vision can capture the frame in just very little light as well, although the results will remain grainy. The magic of the AI algorithm essentially captures and combines multiple images ensures a somewhat usable image which is better than many smartphones in this price range.
Similar to the rear camera, the front camera of Moto One Vision is also a good performer. During the daylight time, it captures great pictures with good details and clarity, however, in the low-light situation, you might feel a lack of details in that. The bokeh mode is quite decent with lots of pre-defined blur options. However, the edge-detection isn’t that great. Overall, the cameras bundled on the Motorola One Vision works perfectly as we have expected. A thumbs up for that!
At another end, Motorola One Vision is fuelled by 3,500mAh battery which is capable enough to run this phone through the day. However, it lasted for around 15 hours on continuous usage which includes few hours of Gaming, social media for about an hour, some online videos streaming and YouTube and about an hour of music playback which looks fairly good. Additionally, it comes with 15W TurboPower fast charging support that charges the battery from 0 – 50 percent in about 40 minutes. Overall, the battery performance in Motorola One Vision is amazing as we expect from a Motorola phone.
Final Verdict
Motorola One Vision is one of the finest phones from the company. However, at Rs. 19,999, the Motorola One Vision is quite expensive from the competition offerings when it comes to on-paper specification comparison. Especially, when you can get a flagship phone like Poco F1. However, the phone excels in performance, software and camera department due to Android One combined with Motorola’s own functional tweaks.
One of the biggest highlights of this phone is the 21:9 CinemaVision display which is quite rare in this price range. Additionally, the device also offers very clean and immersive software experience. So, if you really want to have a great video viewing experience on your mobile, you can go up or this. Else, you can get all the mentioned specs at a lower price point as well.
